Could you become a 'Shared Lives Carer'?

More Shared Lives Carers are needed in Reading to offer vulnerable older people a place in your home and family life on a full, part-time or short-break basis.

Do you have a spare room and some time to care for an older person? Then why not consider taking part in Reading's Shared Lives scheme?

The scheme is like an adult version of fostering, where willing people are checked by council officers and matched with vulnerable people. Once you're approved and trained as a 'Shared Lives Carer', the person then shares your home, community and family life with you, either on a full or part-time, or short-break, basis. Shared Lives Carers get paid on a self-employed basis.

Reading Borough Council is urgently seeking more carers. Even if you do not have the space to have someone stay with you, you could help and support someone with day-time activities such as shopping, going to the cinema, attending football matches or getting involved with the local community.
