Plans to close a GP surgery’s satellite clinic have been approved by a local NHS committee.

Longbarn Lane Surgery, whose premises are in the RG2 area of town, will close its Southcote clinic in Tilehurst from 1 July 2021. The clinic had historically been offered to patients a few sessions each week but during the pandemic, these had temporarily stopped. The surgery won approval to make this change permanent, at a meeting of the Berkshire West Primary Care Commissioning Committee on 14 April.

A handful of people replied to the consultation on the closure. Berkshire West Clinical Commissioning Group is now writing to all patients informing them of the decision. People have the option of finding another GP practice if that is more convenient to them.

Longbarn Lane has around 5,700 patients and is currently rated as a ‘good’ GP surgery by the national inspection body, the Care Quality Commission.
