The views of young people on the specialist school nursing service

In response to concerns raised by the Reading Youth Cabinet about access to mental health support, we surveyed 170 young people at 13 secondary schools across the town, about their awareness and contact with specialist school nurses.

Key findings

  • 47% of young people we surveyed did not know when the specialist school nurse for their school was available for them to see
  • 58% did not know or were unsure how to contact their school nurse
  • 52% of students wanted to be able to contact their school nurse via email
  • 50% said they would consider talking to a school nurse about their mental health
