The experience of people admitted to psychiatric wards at Prospect Park Hospital
We spoke with more than 40 people on acute psychiatric wards during October 2017 in a joint project with five other local Healthwatch.
Key findings
- 81% of people told us they felt hospital staff treated them with dignity and respect
- 80% said they had not been given a date for their discharge from hospital
- 75% said they took part in activities at the hospital but wanted more at weekends
- 69% had been told of their right to have an independent mental health advocate
- People's main suggestion for improvement was more staff: "More often than not the staff-to patient ratio is lower than it should be and it can get chaotic on the ward. I sometimes find it stressful watching the staff struggling to cope... and don’t like asking for help and adding to their workload.”
