What do Reading people know about TB?

We surveyed 326 people, including at-risk adults born in other countries, to help public health and the NHS understand what people know about the infectious disease.

Summary

  • Reading has a higher-than-average number of cases of TB
  • 80% of people knew coughing was a symptom but fewer knew of other signs like vomiting, losing weight and swollen feet
  • One-third said they would be embarrassed to tell people if they had TB
  • We called for services to carry out more outreach work with communities
