What do Reading people know about TB?
We surveyed 326 people, including at-risk adults born in other countries, to help public health and the NHS understand what people know about the infectious disease.
Summary
- Reading has a higher-than-average number of cases of TB
- 80% of people knew coughing was a symptom but fewer knew of other signs like vomiting, losing weight and swollen feet
- One-third said they would be embarrassed to tell people if they had TB
- We called for services to carry out more outreach work with communities
